WHICH CE MATH CLASS SHOULD I TAKE?
Typically, most colleges require 3 credits of a Quantitative Analysis Math class to complete general education requirements. These could include Math 1030, 1040 or 1050. Below is an explanation of each course and a guide for which one is appropriate for what you would like to study. All Secondary Math courses (1, 2, & 3) MUST be completed before you can take Math 1030, 1040, 1050 or 1060.
MATH 1030
Intro to Quantitative Reasoning
Pre-requisite: C Average per year in Secondary Math 1, 2 & 3 OR ACT Math 19 / ACT Reading 16
Covers a broad scope of mathematical topics as they apply to real-world problems. Topics include reasoning and number sense, using percents and estimations, math for finance matters such as loans and investments, probability and statistics, and modeling. Intro to Quantitative Reasoning may be the last Math class students take in college.
MATH 1040
Intro to Statistics
Pre-requisite: C Average per year in Secondary Math 1, 2 & 3 OR ACT Math 19 / ACT Reading 16
Includes descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Topics include sampling design, descriptive statistics, linear regression and correlation, probability, sampling distributions, and hypothesis testing and confidence intervals. Intro to Statistics may or may not be the last Math class students take in college.
MATH 1050
College Algebra
Pre-requisite: C Average per year in Secondary Math 1, 2 & 3 AND ACT Math Score 23+ / ACT Reading 18+
An in-depth exploration of algebra topics designed to ultimately prepare students for Calculus or further education courses. Topics include functions, including polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic; systems of equations; matrices and determinants; partial fraction decomposition; conics; and sequences and series. College Algebra is the first Math class students will likely take in a math-intensive college major.
* It is recommended that you check with the college/univeristy you plan on attending and the program you would like to study to see if they have specific recomendations.
